Cast Glass, Gold Leaf
Size: 16 W x 10 H x 3 D in
Strata is part of the Horizon Series, inspired by time spent on the north shore of Lake Superior and by the work of George Morrison (1919–2000), the Native American Abstract Expressionist painter and sculptor whom I had the privilege to meet.
The horizon serves as an organizing structure for visual space—our most fundamental means of orientation.
In Strata, layered bands of color suggest land, water, wind, and air held in equilibrium. Moons or planets are frozen in space. Horizontal bands of varied textures and colors guide our eye as if we were gazing out over the lake. Carving and casting techniques are used to create this stunning one of a kind hand made piece of fine craft. Gold leaf covers the edges adding glowing warmth.
The two pieces of cast glass stack comfortably and museum gel is included to ensure secure placement.
Certificate of Authenticity accompanies the piece as well.
